About the artist:
Seiko Koba (木場清子 1926-2024), A Master of Oshie Art
Seiko Koba was born in Tokyo, Japan, and in 1952 she began her artistic career studying Oshie art under three well-known masters in the areas of Japanese art and Oshie art: Tekiho Nishizawa, Shuzan Nagai, and Junko Yoshida. In 1997, she moved to Hacienda Heights, CA, and continued her artwork until her passing at the age of 98. Her professional artist name is Kyuka, or 九華 (literally, “nine flowers”).
Her major exhibitions include: the Mitsukoshi Art Gallery (Tokyo), the Seibu Art Gallery (Tokyo), the Ueno Museum of Art (Tokyo), and the Rockefeller Art Exhibit (London).
